24-hour cyclathon tackles Blue Monday

Monday 16th January will see employees at ResourceBank cycle 783 miles in 24 hours to raise money for two key charities fighting mental health and saving children’s lives.

Using static bikes in the offices and at home, ResourceBank employees will virtually visit the UK Head Office of 15 key customers traveling from Yorkshire through London, Cornwall and Birmingham before finishing at Telford.

The 3rd Monday of the year is recognised as “Blue Monday”, the most depressing day of the year, so ResourceBank is tackling it head-on with a team challenge to give all employees a joint focus and to raise money for charity.

ResourceBank Chief Executive Richard Pearson said

“In 2022 we held the first of our Blue Monday events – rowing for 24 hours in support of Team Elijah’s Star. The event raised more than £2500 for a fantastic charity, but more importantly gave us all a fun group activity to focus on during a challenging time of year. For 2023 we are swapping the rowing machines for bikes and every member of staff has volunteered to take part – either by cycling or by supporting – and I am delighted by the positive reaction of the team.”

ResourceBank are raising funds for Action Medical Research, the company’s partner charity, and for Shout85258, the UK’s first free confidential text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling with mental health.

Richard says “I’ve worked out a cycle route which is 783 miles so we will need to be achieving an average of 32 miles an hour between us all.”

Everyone will be able to track the progress of the cyclathon online and donations to our charities are very gratefully received on our Just Giving page here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/resourcebankcyclingevent2023
