ResourceBank UWS School in Nepal

We are passionate about creating educational opportunities so, to mark our 25th year, we funded the building of a new school in Nepal by the United World Schools charity. Children at the hard-to-reach village previously had a two-hour walk to reach the nearest school.

In 2023, team members Richard, Sarah, Lulu and James visited the school to experience first-hand it’s impact. Read about their experience here.

Why Nepal?

The UWS Meringden School provides a vital education centre in an area damaged by the 2015 earthquake.

Nepal’s literacy rate is among the lowest in the world and only a small minority of girls attend school.

The building of the UWS School was severely delayed by COVID-19 so we were delighted to hear that the school was completed in the autumn of 2021 and took in its first children in October 2021.

In Action.

In 2023, team members Richard, Sarah, Lulu and James travelled 24 hours in tough conditions to visit the newly built school for its opening ceremony.

The UWS Meringden School currently houses 80 pupils with 6 classrooms and an office. The school is also used for mother and baby groups and as a place where the community is educated especially about the benefits of education and importance of sending their children to school.

The Latest.

Flooding in Taplejung and Sankhuwasabha, Bikram Bhattarai, Education Officer for United World Schools Nepal and School Mobiliser, Bhola Paudel, were unable to visit the school this year. However, despite the flooding and heavy rainfall, they managed to hire a volunteer teacher in collaboration with the local government at the nearest municipality. A warm welcome is extended to the newly admitted pupils from the nearby village into the school.
